This project explores the creation of levitated planes—both horizontal and vertical—derived from a strong, ordered Cartesian grid. However, through a series of intentional misalignments at key intersections, the rigid framework is disrupted, resulting in a layered composition and a heightened sense of depth.
By extending and shifting these planes, the design not only defamiliarizes the strict geometry of the grid but also invites nature and daylight deeper into the interior spaces. This blurring and expansion of the boundary between inside and outside defines the project's concept of "Liminal Space."
Outdoor spaces are particularly vital as liminal zones, playing a crucial role in both honoring and enhancing the richness of the surrounding landscape. Through a thoughtful weaving of courtyards and landscaped areas of varying scales and positions, the design offers an uninterrupted and immersive experience of nature.
Sustainability is deeply embedded in the project’s ethos. Strategies include maximizing natural daylight while minimizing heat gain, promoting cross-ventilation, utilizing recycled materials, and thoughtfully incorporating an existing spring into the site’s playground area. We believe that architecture is truly successful only when it is conceived with genuine consideration for both the local community and the natural environment.
