Bharatanatyam is a private residential project located in Atlanta, Georgia, designed for an elderly Indian couple. This project blends cultural heritage with a contemporary approach, creating a home that reflects their lifestyle and values.

The project is named after its concept, Bharatanatyamis, a traditional Indian dance that has been central to the couple's life. The interior extracts key elements from the clients' past duo dancing photographs and converts them into design languages, such as movement, color, and texture, taking reference to architectural details of Hindu temples, traditional dancing costumes, and handcrafted decor to bring a sense of home for the clients. The design incorporates materials and patterns reminiscent of their heritage, fostering a deep connection to their roots.

The layout involves a series of semi-open spaces, reflecting the movement in their dance and providing flexible areas that flow naturally from one to another, balancing privacy with opportunities for connection. Rich color schemes and textures inspired by the Bharatanatyam costume are applied to the FFE selection, bringing a traditional Indian flavor while also being visually accommodating for the elderly. Additionally, the modernized Hindu temple details and Jhula swing provide a sense of belonging and contribute to their emotional well-being. Large windows and indoor greenery add vibrancy, while carefully chosen furniture, including handcrafted pieces, ensures comfort and familiarity. The lighting is designed to enhance the space with both subtle ambiance and functional illumination, setting the right mood for relaxation, socializing, or quiet reflection.

By blending cultural authenticity with contemporary livability, Bharatanatyam offers a meaningful living space that honors tradition while embracing the present. The project reflects how design can create a home that is both deeply personal and effortlessly functional.
