Perched high above the Pacific Coast Highway, Carbon Canyon Estate occupies a dramatic 3.25-acre coastal site in Malibu, offering sweeping 280-degree views of the Pacific Ocean. The estate is carefully oriented to capture both sunrise and sunset while maintaining complete privacy from the landscape below. Its design transforms a historic property—once home to a well-known celebrity compound lost in the Pacific Palisades and Malibu fires of January 2026—into a contemporary coastal retreat that blends modern architecture, wellness-oriented living, and a relaxed tropical sensibility.
Arrival is orchestrated along a long gated driveway that gradually ascends the hillside, culminating in a cobblestone motor court that establishes the estate’s scale and character. The 14,000-square-foot main residence is conceived as a modern tropical compound organized around a series of indoor and outdoor living spaces. Expansive glazing, large sliding walls, and terraces allow the home to open fully to the surrounding ocean panorama while bringing natural light deep into the interior.
Outdoor spaces play a central role in the estate’s experience. Multiple pools, terraces, and gathering areas create a sequence of environments designed for relaxation, entertainment, and wellness. A tennis court with sports cabana complements the recreational program, reinforcing the property’s identity as a private coastal retreat.
Material selection emphasizes warmth, durability, and sustainability. Natural finishes, green materials, and energy-efficient systems—including a solar energy system and passive design strategies—reduce the estate’s environmental footprint while maintaining a luxurious aesthetic.
Throughout the design, the goal was to create a residence that promotes wellness, connection to nature, and an elevated coastal lifestyle. Abundant daylight, fresh ocean air, and fluid indoor-outdoor spaces enhance both physical and mental well-being. Carbon Canyon Estate ultimately embodies a philosophy rooted in site-driven architecture, sustainable materials, and seamless integration with the surrounding landscape, offering a modern coastal compound that is both dramatic in its setting and deeply connected to the natural environment.
