The fundamental logic of architecture lies in the stacking of cubes and the beauty of proportions. Located in Beitun, Taichung, the project is a composite space that combines a reception center and a café. The designer took “grids, lines, and order” as the starting point, transforming rational structure into emotional experience. As the first impression visitors have of the development, the reception center conveys a sense of purity and balance through white and light-toned geometric compositions, symbolizing the most stable rhythm of urban life.
“Gridscape” takes “the sense of geometric order” as its core theme. Layers of stacked lattice partitions resemble the cross-section of an architectural model, narrating the logic of the city. Visually, the grid-like partitions and stacked translucent cubes resemble windows and mailboxes, embedding the metaphor of “one grid, one home” in visitors’ minds. As the light shifts throughout the day, the perforated surfaces cast rhythmic shadows, allowing people walking through the space to feel a musical cadence.
The reception area extends into the café, sharing the same style and materials to create both visual and emotional continuity. The café, hosting the Arabica coffee brand’s first location in Taichung, continues the “keyboard” concept—the long white bar counter resembles flowing musical scales, while the tiered seating paired with soft cushions evokes the sensation of musical notes resting on a staff. This design not only infuses the space with rhythm but also conveys warmth within minimalism, forming a harmonious resonance among architecture, music, and people.
